Manual handling injuries are the most common type of occupational ill health in the UK. Just under half of all reported* manual handling injuries are to the back and nearly 30% to the upper limbs and results in an average time off per person in excess of 17 days.  Abtec Industries are specialists in manual handling and the training is conducted by senior staff with many years experience in industry. Our trainers have achieved 'Professional trainer certification' from the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health (CIEH). Abtec Industries provide manual handling training courses to companies and individuals throughout the United Kingdom and Ireland. This course is designed to meet the requirements of the Manual Handling Operations Regulations  (MHOR).

Course Content

Our aim is to explain in clear and concise terms with the aid of demonstration and delegate participation the following:

• Legal duties and regulations relating to MHOR 1992.
• How we define 'Manual Handling'.
• The financial and health cost to both the employee and employer of injury caused by incorrect manual handling.
• An explanation of the medical, physical and psychological damage that can be caused through incorrect manual handling.
• Types of back and upper limb injury including case studies.
• How to identify manual handling risk factors in the workplace.
• Techniques for correct handling and lifting.
• Techniques for correct push and pulling.
• The risk assessment process. Completing a risk assessment. 
• Solutions and alternatives to typical manual handling problems.
• The importance of machinery and its maintenance in reducing risk.
• The delegates are requested to complete a short test paper.

Please note that this course does involve, with guidance, delegate participation in both theoretical and practical demonstration and analysis of the manual handling process.
