Abrasive Wheels Regulations Training Course.

The content is both theoretical and practical based and includes multi-media presentations that demonstrate the need for safety in the use of grinding wheels. The training is fully interactive with delegates, after tuition, encouraged to demonstrate their awareness of safety in the use of abrasive wheels.

Abtec Industries are specialists in abrasives and the training is conducted by senior staff with many years experience in the abrasive industry. Our trainers have achieved 'Professional trainer certification' from the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health (CIEH).

Typical environments include small workshops and toolrooms, fabricators, maintenance departments, construction sites and local authority workshops etc.

The training is of 3 1/2 hours duration.

Suitability: This course is designed for the occasional user through to the more experienced user of portable grinding/cutting machines powered by either petrol, compressed air or electricity and/or bench/pedestal mounted machines. For your safety full personal protective equipment will be provided by Abtec.

Part 2

Definition and analysis of abrasive wheels

  • Definition of a grinding wheel.
  • How an abrasive wheel works.
  • Abrasive and bond types.
  • Abrasive wheel marking system.
  • Typical abrasive wheel specifications.
  • Speeds of abrasive wheels.

Part 3

Receipt, handling, storage and inspection of abrasive wheels

  • Receipt of wheels.
  • Handling prior to use.
  • Correct storage.
  • Inspection, examination and testing.

Part 4

Machines and work areas

  • Types of flanges.
  • Maximum operating speed.
  • Condition of spindles and bearings.
  • Machine controls.
  • Provision of guards and work-rests.
  • Condition of floors and work area.

Part 5

  • Inspection of the machine and work area.
  • Correct procedures for removing and mounting abrasive wheels.
  • Dressing methods and procedures.
  • Assessment of delegates practical ability in the mounting of abrasive wheels.
  • Written test paper.
